Cwmifor is five minutes’ drive from the historic hilltop town of Llandeilo with its excellent craft and specialist shops, antiques emporia, galleries and restaurants. The internationally acclaimed Llandeilo Music Festival takes place annually in July. www.llandeilo.org

The surrounding area is steeped in history with many historic castles, stately homes and beautiful gardens close by.
There are many attractive walks from Kites’ Nest into the surrounding countryside which is a haven for wildlife and perfect for birdwatching.

The Heart of Wales railway line, linking Swansea to Shrewsbury runs through the most picturesque of scenery with stops along the way including Llandrindod Wells, Llanwrtyd Wells and Builth Wells. You may join the train at stations at Llandeilo and Llandovery. www.heart-of-wales.co.uk
There are some spectacular castles nearby including Carreg Cennen and Dryslwyn. Throughout the year both the restored gardens at Aberglasney www.aberglasney.org and the National Botanic Garden of Wales www.gardenofwales.org.uk boast a wide range of plants in flower and are all within a few miles’ radius.

Their conservatory tea room offers a relaxing venue for refreshments throughout the day and inexpensive plants from the garden are available.
